  143. I have two suggestions:
  144.  
  145. 1.  To get out of your immediate problem, turn off your Hard Drive and
  146. boot the system with a floppy.  After it is at the desktop, turn on your
  147. Hard Drive and let it get up to speed.  Then run AHDI and you will be
  148. able to access your Hard Drive.  This also works if you put a .ACC file
  149. in your ACC path and it messes you up.  I don't reccommend doing this
  150. often, or at all really, unless you absolutely must.  It might damage you
  151. r Hard Disk.  I'm not sure.
  152.  
  153. 2.  If you can program, create a program that only has one function:
  154. rename.  Then have it only become active when a shift key is held during
  155. the boot.  Then you could have it ask you the source and new name.  This
  156. is better than installing a large booter program like Superboot, and
  157. should only take up a few K.

  214. will return the drive mask in d0.l, but drive B is always present, even if
  215. I've only got one disk drive (in addition to the HD).

  301. Thanks for reminding us of all this Bob.  I dropped my
  302. subscription to these pay-services when they imposed the
  303. flat-rate system.  I thought it was, and still think it is, a
  304. rip-off.  I do sort of miss access to the Gadgets forum on
  305. Genie, but it is not worth paying for other people to read the
  306. other non-computer forums.  Anyway, I was just wondering if
  307. anyone knew how these services were doing financially, as a
  308. result of their change in philosophy about charging
  309. subscribers?  It might serve as a lesson in the future.

  346. I've sent the latest version of the MiNT library (patchlevel 14) up to
  347. atari.archive.umich.edu. There are a lot of changes from patchlevel 10,
  348. most notably support for the new features of MiNT 0.9 (which is being
  349. beta-tested now; sorry for the delay!). If you want a sneak preview of
  350. what's going to be available in MiNT, grab the libraries :-).

  410. What I hear is that the Panther was to be Atari's 32-bit video game system.
  411.  
  412. They were planning to release it in January of 1992.
  413.  
  414. They were also working on a 64-bit video game system called the Jaguar.
  415.  
  416. The Jaguar was to be released sometime in 1994.
  417.  
  418. However, the Jaguar was way ahead of schedule so Atari scrapped the Panther
  419. and decided to go 64-bit all together.
  420.  
  421. The Panther would have kicked butt if released the same time as the Super
  422. Nintendo but I guess Atari figured that would not be possible.

  424. Can you imagine what the Jaguar will do?

  426. The Panther would have cost $200.

  428. I bet you that the jaguar will have a price around $300.

  431. I have also heard that Atari may try to use some of the graphics and sound
  432. of the Jaguar into a new ST that they are building and plan to release in 1992.

  450. By instinct I would go for gcc, because I use it at work on my unix
  451. machine, but several people seem to use Sozobon.

  490. I have a Quantum LPS105 working with an (old) ICD host adapter.
  491.  
  492. I vaguely remember someone on GEnie (perhaps Tom Harker) saying that the
  493. old ICD host adapter (not the new Advantage series) had problems daisy-
  494. chaining some drives, either just Seagate SCSI with any other SCSI or all
  495. SCSI drives.  Perhaps you might want to call ICD (talk to Howard, or maybe
  496. even Tom and mention what I said) and see what they say.  That is, if
  497. you have the old host adapter.  If you have the new ones, try rearranging
  498. the position of the drives on the SCSI chain.  What kind of ST do you have,
  499. BTW?

  580. mail-server.  Write email to
  581.         mail-server@rusinfo.rus.uni-stuttgart.de
  582. with empty subject and `help' in the mail body to get the newest help

  604.  520STe is the STe with 0.5MB RAM in it, yes, they are real. In fact some 520STe
  605.  came with some games boundled with it. (look in RUN PC's AD in Current Note for
  606.  titles, I don't remember them).
  607.  For upgrading to 4MB machine this is better buy, because they are cheaper than
  608.  1040 and only waste 2 256KB SIMMs in steaded of 4 256KB SIMMs in 1040.

  628. Actual choice of which Atari style joystick is a purely personal thing.
  629. I prefer the original Atari joystick... yes, they break, and yes, you

  631. more controllable and responsive than other, more durable units.

  657. is, but call 800 directory information (800-555-1212) and ask for the number.
